Our History

Adult Tendercare Center has been in Springfield since 1988, When Dr. Clarence Ketch and his wife Virginia Ketch opened the medical model of a day care for adults, in the middle of the downtown Springfield in the old " Three Sisters Building", 301 Park Central East. Ten years later, in 1998, the Ketch's daughter Clarene and husband Bill Shepherd assumed ownership of the business so Dr. and Mrs Ketch could retire. In 2004 contractors broke ground for a new building and in 2005 Adult Tendercare Center moved into a spacious 9600 square foot building located on N Glenstone. Then in 2008 they opened another facility in the Chesterfield Village located at 2142 W Chesterfield Blvd.
An Adult Day Center is a perfect place for adults who need a place to go and socialize, stay active and yet recieve care at the same time. Adult Tendercare becomes "school/work" or just "the center" for some. For all, it offers a caring homelike atmosphere where participants have the opprtunity to share feelings and experiance with peers and staff who understand their needs and their concerns. Companionship is encouraged through activities such as arts, crafts, games, puzzles, exercise, music, books, and group discussions and outings. We also serve breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Special dietary and medical needs are taken care of on an individual basis. Regardless of what one needs, family and caregivers of participants at A.T.C. can go about their activities knowing that their loved one is in a safe, friendly surrounding where his/her personal talents, abilities, and disabilities are valued as unique.
